Veterans Honored
At the Nov 11 th Veterans Day ceremony, William Bradford Turner American Legion Post #265 honored the fallen of Garden City and this nation. Post Commander John Donovan and New York State Deputy Secretary for Homeland Security Michael Balboni spoke to the audience at the memorial near the Garden City Public Library. Mr. Balboni gave a moving tribute to both our war dead and to those that work to secure us, including the New York National Guard's 42nd Rainbow Division.
Afterward, as is custom, a similar ceremony was conducted at the Rainbow Monument at Clinton Road and St. James South. This memorial commemorates the 42 nd Division and the other troops that trained and deployed to World War I from the Camp Mills base that existed there.
