Varsity Girls Attend State Swim Championships

The Girls Varsity Swim Team led by co-captains Jenna Daly and Erica Derlath along with teammates Sarah Schlichte and Megan Zarriello finished 4th out of 130 participating high school teams with 163 points at the New York State High School Swimming Championships. This meet was held on November 16th and 17th at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. All four girls were finalists in their respective events. Senior Erica Derlath was the champion in the 200 individual medley with a new Nassau County and Garden City High School record. She also defended her NYE Public High School state title in the 500 free. Both wins earned her All American Honors. Senior Jenna Daly finished 4th in the 200 free and 5th in the 500 free. Both swims were All American Consideraton times. Freshman Megan Zarriello placed 6th in the 200 free and 7th in the 500 free. Her 200 free swim was a personal best time. Sophomore Sarah Schlichte placed 17th in the 200 free and 15th in the 500 free. Both swims were personal best times. This was Sarah's first appearance in finals in an individual event at the State meet.
Sarah also led off the 400 freestyle relay. followed by Erica, Megan and Jenna, the girls rebroke both the Garden City High School and Nassau County record they previously set at the County Championship meet 2 weeks ago. The relay placed 4th in the state with a time of 3:36.28 which earned them All American Consideration honors. Congratulations to Erica, Jenna, Sarah and Megan and especially to their coach Anne Sullivan.
