Thunder 11 Maroon Play Finale In Farmingdale

Brothers Stand United
The last game for the Thunder Maroon 11's was a tough, but hard fought loss to Massapequa. The kids gave a game effort, but just couldn't match the firepower of Massapequa. Instead of dwelling on the loss, let's take a look the season.

When they first took the field in August, it was hard to figure how this gang would perform. But one thing is for sure; the dedication on display in camp was no aberration. Jack Aneser was asked how he felt about practicing three days a week in August. "Hey, hanging at the beach would be fun, but football games are not won by sipping on slurpees." You got that right, young man.

Once the season started you could see the new faces and old vets, playing well together. Five-year veteran Mike Holland liked the new blood on the team. "Some guys need more help than others, but the team gelled faster than grandma's fruitcake." Interesting analogy Mike.

The key to any successful football team is up front. Both lines exhibited solid play throughout the year. Linemen Creighton, Keating, McGoldrick, Leggett, Rosenblatt, Kennelly and the Byrnes Bros., should all be proud of their 2007. Defensive end Cullen Minion played some great defensive end, especially when filling in for an injured Anthony Preziosi during the Inwood game.

Offensive Line Coach Ireland had the kids ready to play every Sunday. When asked what he plans do moving forward Coach Ireland deferred, "It's too soon to answer that, right now the emotions are to intense." We understand coach.

This season was filled with great highlights. Not the least of which was the game winning extra point at Hicksville. Dale Stasco kicked that one, as well some other key extra points. Great job this year Dale.

The backfield quartet of Blair, Harder, Moran and Preziosi had some memorable runs. Defensive backs Joe Leto and James Nardone made some great tackles. Linebacker Brendan McLauglin was asked what was key to this year's success. "We all played loose - we let the looseness get into our vertebrae." Great outlook, son.

Special Teams/Defensive Coordinator Harder was asked what he will miss the most, "Two things. The anticipation just before kickoff, and that first wing from McGeevers."

Blue 19, Blue 19
As these young men move on to middle school football, they can look back and be proud of their efforts they made as Thunder players. The final scores are secondary to the friendships forged.

Although, this was their last season as Thunder players, they will take these experiences with them for the rest of their lives. It may sound cliché, but it's these memories that they will recall the most, and it's the reason they play the game.

Go Thunder!
