Link Removed From Web Site

A link to a company selling athletic clothing has been removed from the Garden City Athletics Web site after attorneys for the Garden City School District advised the Board of Education that the link put the district in "a very bad position."

The unanimous decision was made at the November 13th work session of the Garden City Board of Education. Attorneys claim the link violated the New York State Education Department's prohibition against commercialism.

Visitors to www.gcathletics.org who clicked on "Sports Links" and Girls' Lacrosse were met with an advertisement for athletic clothing with the Garden City Trojans design. The school district did not endorse the company, Prep Sportswear, and did not receive proceeds from sales.

District Director of Physical Education & Athletics Nancy Kalafus said the link has been on the site for a year.
