They've done it again! After 61 straight wins, Garden City's varsity field hockey team has won the Long Island Class B title and is headed to Syracuse to defend their state championship crown.
The playoff road to Syracuse began with a first round bye, followed by a 5-0 Nassau semi final win over New Hyde Park on November 1st. The Nassau county final against Manhasset ended in a 6-2 win for the Trojans and the right to travel to Stonybrook University on November 11th for the Long Island Championship game against the Shoreham Wading River Wildcats.
The 18-0 Trojans faced some stiff competition from the Wildcats as the first half ended in a 0-0 tie. Garden City came out strong in the second half and with 15:57 left, took a 1-0 lead on an Erin Brennan goal. Junior Caroline McTiernan made a habit of scoring and added three goals for the Trojans, bringing the final score to 4-0. As the offense kept possession for a good part of the game, the defense did it's part when needed as goalie Elizabeth Gurskis didn't have to make a single save throughout the game.
