Village Sports The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting children's swimming lessons for Village residents at the Adelphi University Swimming Pool in Woodruff Hall on Saturday mornings. Your child must be six years of age by the start of the program to participate. The classes will begin Saturday, December 1, 2007. Classes are taught by Red Cross Certified Instructors. The cost is $40.00. To register, please mail this form and a check to the Recreation Department at 351 Stewart Ave. Walk in registrations will not be accepted until November 28th. Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills Level 2 - For children who have taken a lesson but need to learn fundamental skills Level 3 - Builds on fundamental skills by providing guided practices Level 4 - Develops confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills Level 5 - Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes Level 6P - Personal Water Safety - for children who have passed Red Cross level 6 or 7 - stresses survival floating, treading water, swimming in clothes, etc. Level 6F - Water Fitness - for children who have passed "Red Cross" level 6 or 7 - sessions will cover learning training techniques, how to use fins, kickboards, pace, clock, etc. Classes offered are as follows: CODE 10:00 am Level 1(10 maximum)10-1 10:00 am Level 3(10 maximum)10-3 10:00 am Level 4(10 maximum)10-4 10:00 am Level 6F(12 maximum)10-6F

after school program for grades 3-5 The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter Rich Anderson and the Recreation Staff will conduct a gym program for children in grades 3-5. This program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. This program will run from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. in St. Paul's Field House beginning December 3 rd according to the following schedule: Boys in grades 3-5Mondays from 3:30 - 6 p.m. Girls in grades 3-5Fridays from 3:30 - 6 p.m. This program is free and no registration is necessary. Sneakers must be worn for any activity in the field house. Note-Once the children are in our facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. adult swim at adelphi The Recreation Department's adult swim program has begun at Adelphi's indoor pool located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, aged 18 or older. The program is open to residents for lap swimming on Mondays through Thursdays in one hour time blocks at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the Recreation Office. You must register each day you would like to swim by calling the Recreation Office at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time and space is limited.
2nd session Children's tennis lessons announced We are pleased to announce the start of registration for our Winter 2008 Indoor Tennis Program for Children at the community Park Tennis Center. In addition to our lesson programs, we will again offer round robin Match Play and Workout Programs. Senior citizen flu shot program The Inc. Village of Garden City, in cooperation with Winthrop University Hospital, the Nassau County Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs, Nassau County Medical Center, and Molloy College, will conduct a flu immunization program for senior residents of the Village of Garden City on Tuesday, November 20 th. This is a free, no out of pocket expense, program This program will be held in the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane (behind Lord and Taylor's parking lot) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no cost to participate, however, we ask that you bring in any insurance or medicare information and your social security number with you as you need to provide that information on the forms. Preregistration is necessary for participation. Preregistration will begin by phone on Tuesday, October 30 th at 9 a.m. Residents of the Village of Garden City, aged 60 or older, are invited to participate. Anyone who is interested in getting a flu shot must call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 to make an appointment.
aerobic classes in cluett hall The Recreation Dept.'s aerobic classes are just the thing to get your heart pumping and your body moving. Classes are taught by experienced aerobic instructors who try to tailor their program to the level of the participants. Classes are offered at Cluett Hall in St. Paul's according to the following schedule: Mondayat 8 a.m. Wednesday at 8 a.m. Thursdayat 8 a.m. Thursdayat 7 p.m. Sunday at 9 a.m. Classes last approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes. There is no preregistration for these classes. It costs $4 per class if you "pay as you go" or you can buy a 20 class pass for $60. This pass can be purchased in the Recreation Office at Village Hall or the Cluett Hall office. For further information, please call Cluett Hall between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at 742-4905.
