On November 10, the GU10 Garden City Flash continued their undefeated, untied run, beating the East Meadow Sapphires 4-0 at St Paul's. Once again, the weather was forbidding, but this time the rain held off and field conditions held up. The Flash controlled the game throughout, moving the ball well and generating a number of opportunities. The girls opened the scoring midway through the first half when left wing Julia McGuire pushed a square ball to Katherine Galzerano in the center, who fed Michaela Bruno on the right. Michaela placed a solid shot over the keeper and just under the crossbar to put the team in front. Shortly thereafter, Katherine led Emily O'Neill down the left wing. Emily raced past her defender, cut into the box and punched a left foot shot low past the onrushing keeper on the short side. The ball clanged off the post and caromed out to center forward Nicole Leto, perfectly positioned in the six yard box. Nicole made no mistake, one timing the ball high into the net for a 2-0 lead. That set the stage for Katie Muldoon to perform one of her trademark runs. Picking up the ball deep in her own end, Katie tore down the field, held off the East Meadow defense and slotted a right foot shot home at the far post to close the scoring in the half.

The second half saw further domination from the Flash, with numerous balls played into the box and shots put wide. Despite the pressure the team was frustrated until midway through the half when Nicole Derby, at left back, picked up a ball at midfield. Nicole proceeded to dribble through the entire East Meadow defense before putting the ball past the keeper at the near post for a 4-0 margin.
The defense, led by Grace Cameron, Kerry Defliese, Isabel Klatt and Chloe Stapleford consistently choked off East Meadow attacks. As in past weeks, East Meadow was unable to manage a single shot on goal and goalies Nicole Derby and Nicole Leto, when they were troubled at all, were required to do little more than pick up a stray rollers.
The girls will look to close out the season on a high note Saturday in Franklin Square. Optimists say it won't rain, but doubters remain. Go Flash!
