Tom Phelan's Work Chosen for Anthology An excerpt from Tom Phelan's novel Iscariot has been included in the anthology Brandon Twenty-Five, published last month in Ireland by Brandon Books. The anthology brings together the work of twenty-five Irish and international authors in a wide-ranging and stimulating collection of some of the best of modern fiction. First published in 1995, Iscariot tells the story of an expatriate former priest who returns to Ireland to face the past and stumbles across the suspicious death of a young woman. The Cork Examiner called it "a novel about religion, families, sex, guilt and joy...with a 'whodunnit' narrative that keeps you reading to the last page." In addition to being published in Ireland, the novel was issued in a German translation by Schneekluth. Tom Phelan, a retired employee of the Garden City Public Schools, is also the author of the novels In the Season of the Daisies, Derrycloney, and The Canal Bridge. His next novel, The Nailer, is set against the backdrop of Ireland's industrial school system. Excerpts from his novels can be found at www.tomphelan.net.
