Mayors Announce New Petition Campaign In their ongoing mission to stop the addition of a third track along the most densely populated LIRR line, mayors from the villages of Bellerose, Floral Park, New Hyde Park, Garden City, Mineola and Westbury have launched a petition drive calling upon Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy to join in the fight to protect the property and preserve the quality of life of her constituents in the Fourth Congressional District. The mayors unanimously agree that they need to be united in opposition to the project. The MTA is seeking federal funding of almost $1 billion to construct the project. The mayors believe Congresswoman McCarthy is a key figure in this fight and that without her support, the MTA will not receive the funding. The property owners' associations will be seeking petition signatures in the next few weeks. All petitions are due to Village Hall by November 30. They will then be consolidated and formally presented to Congresswoman McCarthy.
