Join former Rockette Corliss Fyfe Whitney for her slide and video presentation about Radio City Music Hall, the history of the Rockettes, and her time with them. As the honorary historian of the Rockette Alumnae, Ms. Whitney has a wealth of poignant and humorous back-stage stories about her years as a Rockette during the 1940's and 1950's. NextReads Electronic Newsletter So many books, so many choices. What to read next? Suppose you could get a free newsletter recommending great reads on your favorite topics? NextReads, a new electronic newsletter service, which is available through the Garden City Public Library, does just that. If you have an email address, you can subscribe to NextReads online through the Library's database link. Patrons can select from the 22 subject lists which include annotations about the books. Fiction and nonfiction newsletter topics include biography and memoir, fantasy, mystery, nature and science, and audiobooks, as well as two children's newsletters and one for young adults. Newsletters are sent on a monthly or bimonthly basis. Each one describes up to 12 books, with links to the Library catalog so that subscribers can place a hold on a title. Library patrons who do not have an email address can view the newsletters online, either at the Library or from any computer with Internet access. For a full listing of the Library's electronic services, visit the Library website at www.gardencitypl.org and click on the link to "Databases." Most are available both in the Library and at home. For remote access, enter the barcode number from your Garden City Public Library card when prompted. Library Hours For Thanksgiving The Garden City Public Library's Thanksgiving holiday hours are: Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve, November 21: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 22:CLOSED Friday, November 23: 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, November 24: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 25: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Library Friends Sponsor Free Bluegrass Concert "The Lonesome Moonlight String Band" A free concert with "The Lonesome Moonlight String Band" will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Garden City Public Library located at 60 Seventh St., Garden City, NY. Enjoy bluegrass music and a whole lot more! This public program is funded by The Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Seating and parking are limited and on a first-come first-served basis. Join Chef Barbara Sheridan of "Looks Who's Cooking" as she demonstrates simply perfect step by step recipes for biscotti, tarts, cookies, and a holiday cake. Easy to make desserts for a delicious dessert buffet. Recipes will be distributed to all attendees. You must be a Garden City resident to register.
