Wings MS Ice Hockey Team Stuns Roslyn 9 - 0

The Garden City Wings Middle School Ice Hockey team started the month of Novem-ber with a decisive win over the Roslyn Bulldogs.

The two sixth grade goalies, Cody Mackston and Adam Hartog, split the net-minding duties. Their diligent work at practice during the past two months paid off with a shutout. The team exploded on attack with 45 shots on goal during the game, resulting in nine goals.

Seventh grade center, Chris Arena, displayed his puck handling skills with three assists and two goals. The defensive trio of eighth grader, Robert Tomao, seventh grader, Mark Brady and sixth grader Liam FitzGerald demonstrated that the adage "the best defense is a good offense" still rings true. Their ability to control the puck during neutral zone regroups and their accurate shots from the points resulted in four goals. Clever passing and good positioning were the keys to the two goals scored by the forward line of sixth graders: John White, Joseph Giarraputo and Conor Gallagher. Seventh grade goalie, Zachary Bostrom, played out of position as a forward and scored the first goal of his career.

The next Wings Middle School Ice Hockey game is on Saturday, November 10 at 10 a.m. at the Iceworks Rink in Syosset. All skaters in grades six through eight interested in playing competitive ice hockey are encouraged to join our club.
