Albertson Storm Shocked By GC

Juliana Kubler clearing out the ball
The Garden City Shock continued its undefeated streak this past weekend in a lopsided league victory over the Albertson Storm by a score of 6 to 0.

Although the Shock clearly dominated their opponents offensively, the defense was the enabling factor repeatedly thwarting Albertson's forwards from breaking through the wall of defense provided by alternating defenders Emma Costello, Olivia DeCurtis, Hailey Harder, Julilana Kubler, Caroline Peppard and Jane Stone. The girls were relentless in their pursuit of the ball cutting off passes and moving the ball up to their waiting teammates Tiana Biscone, Jenna Cammarata, Julia Forbes, Brooke McDaid and Kerri Metzler.

Despite the cloudy day and wet field conditions, the passing was crisp and precise up the sidelines. Julia Forbes and Kerri Metzler moved the ball well on nice give and goes between Brooke McDaid, Tiana Biscone, and Jenna Cammarata and back to their defenders for the give and go. As in past games, it did not take long for the Shock to put the ball in net for the early lead. Just 4 minutes into the game, Jane Stone moved the ball to Tiana Biscone who used her speed and cunning to outsmart two Albertson defenders to move the ball past midfield. With Brooke McDaid sprinting up the right wing Tiana made the unselfish pass to Brooke who fired a shot across to the far post placing it in the lower left corner for the goal!!!!! Just moments later, Emma Costello took possession of the ball off a corner kick on the left side of the field and passed it to Olivia DeCurtis who was pushing up the right. Olivia seized the opportunity and fired a shot to the opposite side from outside the 18 for the second goal of the game. Moments later, Caroline Peppard would fire another rocket from outside the 18 which narrowly missed and hit the post.

Hailey Harder played perfectly in goal for the first half of the game but was glad to turn over the goalie shirt to Kerri Metzler for the second half. Kerri too would see little action in the second half as the Shock would go on a scoring spree adding four more goals before the final whistle would blow.

Julia Forbes takes on a defender
With the Shock picking up where it left off at the end of the first half the girls pressured from the outset. With no alternative but to push the ball out of bounds on an attack by Brooke McDaid, Julia Forbes and Jenna Cammarata, the Shock was given a corner kick which Juliana Kubler placed perfectly in front of the net where Jenna Cammarata was waiting to put it away for the third goal of the game. It didn't take long for Jenna to score her second goal of the game this time off a feed from Jane Stone. With the game slipping away, the Albertson coach called a time out to switch goalies. On an ensuing goalie clear, Juliana Kubler would cross the field to pick up the pass, make one touch and boom. above the goalie's head for the sixth and final goal of the game.

The coaches were extremely pleased with the total team effort that has enabled the girls to dominate their opponents over the last several weeks. The competition gets tougher this week as the Shock meet second place East Meadow and then third place Levittown to close out the season.
