On Saturday November 3, the Garden City Flames hosted the Syosset Fire at St. Pauls. The Flames have been concentrating on starting strong from the opening whistle. In this match, the team came through with the game plan as Pat Slovensky scored the first of his two goals in the first minute of play. Throughout the match, the team exhibited superb defense play by Brian "Big Man" Goulard, "Cool" Connor Tariche and Greg "Footwork" Pahlavi, along with accurate and well-timed passing. The constant stopping power of Billy "The Stopper' Trimmer along with middies Will "Hammer" Hammersley, Stephen "Steve-O" D'Antonio and Timmy "Go to it" Collins resulted with the Flames winning the game 4-2. After the Fire tied up the game and managed to take the lead in the first half, Pat Slovensky scored his second goal to tie up the game before halftime. Chris Costigan played strong in net but proved to be a bigger asset on the field during the second half.
With relief in net, by Greg Pahlavi and Brett "The Bomber" Alvarez, the Fire could not score in the second half. In the second half, the Flames doused the "Fire" defense with their constant offensive pressure. The backs regularly hit their target players, which had Luciano "Luc" Migliore, Chris Costigan and "Powerful Pat" Slovensky passing the ball to their teammates going on the attack. Will Hammersley had a strong cross to Timmy Collins early in the second half who scored the game winning goal and put the Flames up 3-2. Stevie D'Antonio's speed and agility along with Chris "The Crusher" Costigan's fancy footwork, kept the Flames in control. Timmy Collins then independently sealed the Fire's fate, with his second goal of the game.

The Flames continue to play better soccer week after week. The timing of the offensive runs, the way they defend their goal as a team and the confidence of their keepers is fantastic to watch. Next week, the Flames travel to play the North Shore Gunners. The team rivalry will be one to watch. Let's go Flames!!!
