Tech Students Inducted Into Honor Society Eighty-two Nassau County teenagers from Nassau BOCES Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center (Barry Tech) were recently inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) during a special ceremony at the school. An additional 15 students maintained their eligibility from the previous year and were honored as well. Membership in the NTHS, the nation's highest award for excellence in career and technical education, is based on academic achievement, community service and teacher recommendations. Students must also exemplify qualities such as honesty, service, skill and leadership. BOCES Board member Michael Weinick congratulated the inductees on their tremendous achievement, reminding the entire audience that by "working hard and learning valuable skills, these students have made their families and communities proud." He also noted that most of all, the students should be proud of themselves for their accomplishments. Among the students inducted were: Garden City High School Carolyn Holecek, Nurse Assisting Lauren Williams, Fashion Design Technology Barry Tech is the state-of-the-art career and technical education center that Nassau BOCES operates for high school students in Nassau County. Students spend part of their day studying one of more than two dozen career fields, including aviation, auto repair, veterinary science, construction, computer technology, culinary arts and video production.
