Artist Makes L.I. Debut

"Home and Hearth," an exhibition of the paintings of Queens artist Sandy Ryan, will be featured at the Barnes Gallery in Garden City South from November 7 through January 2.

Ryan, whose oils and watercolors have been displayed at Manhattan's Lever House, Almondine in Dumbo, Brooklyn, and other New York area galleries, will be showing her work on Long Island for the first time. A graduate of Geneva College in western Pennsylvania, Ryan studied under the noted watercolorist John Kaufman and has been painting professionally for 15 years. She possesses a keen eye for composition and specializes in capturing the interplay of shadow and light.

The part-time art instructor is a member of the Alliance of Queens Artists and the 1995 winner of AQA's "Emerging Artist Competition." She has curated various exhibitions and her commissions, particularly those of houses, have proven to be extremely popular.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to bring my art to Long Island," says Ryan. "The beaches, the quaint towns and all those leaves changing colors make the area an artist's dream."

Sandy Ryan can be reached at (718) 793-3027 or at sanryan81@yahoo.com. A reception will take place on November 17 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the gallery.
