Columnist To Speak Dan Barry, a columnist for The New York Times, will speak at the meeting of the Irish Cultural Society on Tuesday, November 13 at 8 p.m. at the Garden City Library, 60 Seventh Street, across from the Garden City Hotel. The meeting is open to the public. Mr. Barry writes the "This Land" column for the Times and was the writer of the "About New York" column in the Times. He has shared a Pulitzer Prize and a George Polk Award for investigative journalism during his years at the Providence Journal, and won the Mike Berger Award in 2005 for his writing at the Times. Mr. Barry has published a memoir, "Pull Me Up" about his early life being raised on Long Island and his path into the top ranks of journalism. Recently published is a collection of his "About New York" columns, "City Lights: Stories About New York." Mr. Barry will speak about his Irish roots and the route taken by an Irish-American in the field of journalism. Mr. Barry can also be seen in a video on The New York Times Website.
