With goals by Mike Fusco, Terry Curtin, Chris Flecker and Roger Mancusi leading to a convincing 4-1 victory over South Side on October 24th, Garden City's boys varsity soccer team ended the regular season and was looking forward to the Class A playoffs with a re-newed sense of optimism. The Trojans had not let up a goal in four games and goalie Ken Pape's eight shutouts this season were reason enough to believe in themselves.

GC entered the first round of the playoffs with a game against Floral Park on Sunday October 28th. Four minutes into the game, Raymond Fitz-patrick scored off a pass from Will Mignon that put the Trojans up 1-0. Chris Flecker added another goal and Pape had three saves during the game, adding another shutout to the list as GC beat Floral Park 2-0.
