Thunder 9 Maroon Against Bellmore "A"

Brian McKenna, Max Webster, and Brandon Holloway on "D" at the line of scrimmage.
By the score you would have thought it was a baseball game when Thunder 9 Maroon took on the Bellmore "A" team in their last regular season game Sunday, Oct. 28th. With the score Zero-Zero at the 7th inning stretch, uhh, . . . I mean, Halftime, it was truly anyone's game, and everyone had a feeling that the team who manage to score one touchdown in the game would win.

Despite 2 GC recoveries on 2 Bellmore fumbles, a few long Thunder runs, and a pass completion, Bellmore's very large defensemen would not let Thunder cross the goal line. The Big Thunder "D" was absolutely amazing as they halted Bellmore gain throughout the 1st half, allowing only a handful of Bellmore 1st downs and NO touchdowns.

In the 2nd half, Bellmore strung a few good runs together and scored, but the Thunder defense DID NOT allow the extra point; this was HUGE for GC! The final score of this hard-fought game was 6-0, Bellmore.

Some Highlights:

- Sweet tackle by Andrew Wood behind Bellmore's line of scrimmage on their first drive.

The right side of Thunder's offensive line: Christian Coppola at Tight End, Howie Miller at Right Tackle, Brendan Schick at Right Guard, and Thomas Casciano at Center.
- Christian Coppola recovered not just 1, but TWO Bellmore fumbles in the first Half.

- Big first down runs by Brian Haeffner, John Simmons, Dan Confort.

- Thunder's "No way, Baby" Goal-Line Defense prevented Bellmore's extra point on their TD, to show Bellmore that Thunder was not going down easily!

- Passing Plays: QB Simmons to Dan Confort, caught by Confort for gain. Pop Pass attempt by Simmons to Christian Coppola . . . "almost"!

- The entire Thunder Defense allowed just 1 Bellmore TD; noteworthy because of the true "A Team" caliber of this Bellmore team, who have scored many TD's against other teams this year.

It's off to the Play-Offs for Thunder 9 Maroon, as they take on Farmingdale this Sunday. GO, THUNDER!

The left side of Thunder's offensive line: Brandon Holloway at Left Guard, Matt Quinn at Left Tackle, Michael Goulard at Tight End.
