A Word From The Publisher

Election Day is coming up next Tuesday, and of all of the civic responsibilities a citizen has, voting is easily the most fun.

For those moments when you are behind the voting machine curtain, you have the power to support excellent leaders and cast aside governments that don't work. You can bring sweeping changes to the country just by pushing a little lever. The powerful leaders of the country have to please you. In many other places in the world, and indeed in our own history, sweeping changes could only be brought about through wars and violence.

Our other civic responsibilities are significantly less exciting. Consider the others:

Paying taxes - no fun whatsoever. Certain CPAs and tax attorneys we know actually seem to enjoy the intricacies of tax code, but for those of us who just sign the checks, tax time is no fun at all.

Jury duty - mostly dull. (Actually, the editor is one of the few people who used to find jury duty sort of interesting. But most other people seem to loathe it.)

That brings us to military service, and Veterans Day. While military service is no longer required of citizens, we are grateful to those who have served, in wartime and peace. Without you, we would not have the freedom to choose our candidates in free elections.

Thank you.
