Daredevils (U13) In Second Place As Season Continues

Carly Knowles, Courtney Studdert and Jane Frumberg follow Erin's kick into the net!
Over the past two weeks, the GC Daredevils U13 team has played some exciting soccer, moving them into second place amongst strong competition in Division II. First, they took home a win against a very formidable opponent - Commack Attack. Within the first minute of the game, Carly Knowles lobbed a beautiful pass to Nicole Bommarito, who finished it off with her signature rifle shot. After the first goal, the Daredevils kept the pressure on throughout the game with strong offensive plays by Charlotte Castronovo, Jane Frumberg, and Courtney Studdert. Erin Greiner then delivered a "bend it like Beckham" corner kick right into the net - surprising the Commack team, and securing a very important 2-0 lead. Commack responded with a goal of their own, but defensive playing by Victoria Piscopo, Jackie Jahelka and Brynn Murphy helped maintain the Daredevils' lead to secure a 2-1 win.

This past Sunday, the Daredevils traveled to Farmingdale to verse the first place team, the Force. First half, the Daredevils were on fire often dominating the game, to the surprise of Farmingdale. Krista Dampman delivered a skillful and smart goal in a one-on-one against the opposing goalkeeper, which also knocked the Force off their game. Jenna Pasquale, with support from Lily Schmitt, took advantage of the situation with an angled launch from the 18 yard line, which successfully reached the back of the net. With a 2-0 lead, it was now all about defense. Lauren Coleman, Niki Berkery, Bitty Furman and Taylor Pappas maintained force in the defensive zone against an increasingly determined Farmingdale team. However, the lack of Daredevils' substitutions took its toll on the team as the Force wore them down in the second half and they tied the game 2-2.

"I don't think so..." says Lauren Coleman to her opponent.
The whole team tried their best to hold the Force back, but there was a shining star on the field that day - goalkeeper Kelsey Tierney. Kelsey had an absolutely incredible game in the net. As she was peppered with shots - some hitting the post, others being tipped over the net by her fingertips, and others...well, no one quite knows how she saved ... she kept her cool and refused to give it up to Farmingdale. Way to go, Kels.

Look out.. it's Erin Greiner taking a corner kick!
Stay tuned to the Daredevils - there's more to come!
