Thunder White 7's Defeat East Rockaway Raiders

Thomas Poole and Casey Noonan
The Thunder White 7's completed a successful "drive for five" last Sunday at Stewart Field, beating the East Rocka-way Raiders by a score of 19-6. It was the Thunder's fifth victory in as many games, and puts them at 5-1 for the season. Head Coach Matt Curtin noted after the game, "the boys continue to improve each week. They are displaying great instincts for the game, and have developed a visible team chemistry that is helping win games and is a pleasure to watch."

The speed and agility of the Thunder Offense quickly overwhelmed East Rockaway on Saturday. Running back Michael Handal broke out for a 40-yard touchdown on the first play of the game on a perfect sweep left from QB Tyler Wuchte. Luke Connolly rumbled in for the extra point. On the second drive, Liam Muldoon pulled the Thunder out of enemy territory with a patented breakout run, which set up Tyler Wuchte to continue the drive downfield and ultimately score on a quarterback sneak. Proving their diversity, Mark Di Pierro and Kevin Tierney each joined the ranks of Thunder RBs and carried the ball for tough yards up the middle. The Thunder's third TD came at the hands of Muldoon, putting Garden City comfortably ahead 19-0 early in the first half. The offensive line, anchored by John McDonald at center, did a tremendous job of buying time for Wuchte and his backs. He and his mates, Sean Rode, Ryan Walsh, Matt Flanagan, and Liam Ferris opened holes you could drive a truck through.

Crunch Time!
As usual, Garden City's defense was a force to be reckoned with -- led by the intensity of Liam Glynn, who had East Rockaway running backs eating more Stewart Field dirt than a Parks Dept lawnmower. Casey Noonan was a disruptive force in the middle, halting several East Rockaway QB sneak attempts. Alex Sutherland, Liam Joyce and Liam Curtin secured several key stops at Cornerback and Safety. Defensive standout Aidan Byrnes recovered an East Rockaway fumble in the first half, which turned the momentum of the game back to Garden City for good.

The Thunder White 7's will face the Baldwin Bombers in their last home game this Sunday, October 28th at 1.00pm at Stewart Field. There will be a celebration of the boys' achievements after the game.
