Middle School Rocks To Positive Message

Garden City Middle School sixth-graders and faculty drummed up a storm early this month on instruments from around the world brought to the Middle School auditorium by the Hip Pickles Drum Band, a two-man ensemble made up of the uncle-nephew team of Chet Doboe and John Doboe.

The Music with a Message assembly program emphasized many positive concepts intertwined with drumming and dancing by students and a fantastic precision performance by the Hip Pickles.

In particular, the duo encouraged the students to find their passion, to believe in themselves, and to respect themselves and others. They also encouraged students to make new friends, to reach out to others who may be different, and to say no to alcohol, ciga-rettes, and drugs.

The Hip Pickles are the official band of the NY Dragons Arena Football Team, have been voted the number one Percussion Band in the World for the past three years by the readers of Drum Magazine, and are six-time Drum Corps Associates Drum Ensemble World Champions.

Music with a Message was coordinated by the Arts in Education Committee of the Garden City School District Parent Teacher Association funded by the Garden City Union Free School District.
