Kathryn was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Garden City in 1935. She is the mother of Lois A. Beairsto of Homosassa, FL and the late William "Sam" Lanning. She is the grandmother of 7 children: Kathryn Platt, Eileen, Joe and Bill Beairsto, Maureen Burch, and Michael and Kevin Lanning.

Also she is the great-grandmother of Michael, Christian and Meredith Burch; Colin Beairsto; Billy Platt; Adley, Colleen, Patrick and Molly Beairsto; and Kevin and Kaitlyn Lanning and Gardner Lanning.
