In the Community Calendar and Calendar of Events published by the Chamber of Commerce which came out recently there is something I would like to bring to your attention. A very early planner brought it to my attention and, if you correct this small mistake, you will have no problem. When you get into 2008, the months of April and May are titled 2007 instead of 2008. All other dates seem to be all right so just correct the 2007 and you will come out correct and with flying colors. Just remember - mistakes happen.

Bridge once again took pride of place and the Casino's Ladies Luncheon/Bridge started off the week with a full house. Among those enjoying the afternoon were: Janet Delaney, Eleanor Singer, Dorothy Hedwig, Sue Hall, Agnes Rimmels, and Joan O'Connell. A great day was had by one and all.

The members and guests of the Cherry Valley Club held their Dinner/Bridge and they had 30 tables of bridge in play following dinner. Marie Scott and Eleanor Singer dealt, bid and made a small slam in 6 Diamonds and the winners of the two door prizes were Carmen Saumale and John Peretz. No grand slam was made that night. Chairman George Rivara announced that, due to scheduling problems in November, they would hold their next Dinner/Bridge on Wednesday, November 7. Among those enjoying the evening were: Doris and Werner Forster, Arlyn and George Rath, Suzanne Barnes, Annemarie Gordon, Kris and Frank Harder, Nancy Fardelmann, and Joanne Cummings. Everyone was particularly happy to see Joanne, who was a long time resident who moved to the East End a while back but who has now returned to Garden City. Welcome home, Joanne.

The very next day, the Garden City Country Club held its monthly Ladies Lunch/Bridge. There were 28 tables in play after lunch and it was well into play that Irene Christie and Marie Thomaidis came in with the first small slam of the day. There was no grand slam made and the winner of the door prize was Winifred Losan. Bridge Chairlady Muriel Urban, announced that the next date would be Thursday, November 15th. Be sure to get your reservations in for this date.

November is fast approaching with Thanksgiving coming before you know it. Remember to order your turkey early so that will be one less thing to worry about. There is one family gathering on that day and they will be featuring a four legged turkey for their dinner. No kidding!

Geraldine McHugh is taking reservations for the Garden City Branch of A.A.U.W. to attend a production of "Camelot" on Sunday, December 9th at the Broad Hollow Theater in Elmont. If you did not get yours in, give her a call and perhaps she can still fit you in. Sally Richmond has been doing a great job with their "Story of the Louvre." What a great idea and good for you Sally. I know the members are enjoying it.

Happy birthday wishes go to Maggie Battista, who will be celebrating her special day before October fades away and also to Florence Dieterich, who celebrates hers with a big bang. She was born on Halloween October 31st, and also to Gail Vitale, who will blow out the candles on her cake on the 27th. Many happy returns of the day to all and may you have a great day, a year filled with good health, and much happiness with many more to come.

We have quite a few couples who are celebrating their wedding anniversaries this month. Among them are Celeste and Larry Murphy, who celebrate on the 26th, Pat and Jerry Sheehan, Fran and Dick Costello, and Clare and Dick Armadillo. May all the happy couples have many more years of wedded bliss and enjoy it in good health and happiness.

Welcome home to the travelers - Regina Dowling who spent a week in Italy and to Carolyn and Rudy Kaiser, who went the river cruise route. Good to have you home again.

Does anyone know what is making the sounds of a fog horn in the Estates section? It sounds in the early morning and early evening. If you do - write to me at the Garden City News.

See you next week!
