Cupcakes For A Cause

Riesterer's Bakeries recently participated in the third annual Cupcakes for a Cause,™ supporting children affected by cancer. During the week-long event, the bakery sold many types of cupcakes, with 25% of sales going to benefit CancerCare for Kids®. This program provides free, professional support services to nearly 1,500 children and their families who are affected by cancer each year.

"Cupcakes for a Cause is a great way to do something fun while helping children affected by this devastating disease," said Diane Blum, executive director of CancerCare. "Children diagnosed with cancer, and those who have a parent or sibling with cancer, face very difficult emotional questions and concerns that most kids their age don't have. Our oncology-trained social workers help children understand cancer, talk about their feelings and become less afraid of the disease."

Riesterer's Bakery has been awarded "Long Island's Retail Bakery of the Year" by Channel 12 News. Riesterer's is also New York States oldest family bakery, celebrating 76 years.

A list of all participating bakeries can be found at www.cupcakesforacause.org . Parents who are interested in hosting a bake sale can also visit the website to find more information about the event and to download free materials to help them advertise their bake sale.
