GC Titans Defeat Oceanside Bulls

Owen Prendergast stays ahead of the competition
On October 13 the Titans hosted the Oceanside Bulls at St. Paul's.

The Titans scored midway through the first half when Owen Prendergast took a deflected Michael Franco shot into the Bulls' goal. Forwards Mark Luglio and Jack Roscoe also kept the pressure on the Bulls' defense as the Titans continued to penetrate into the Oceanside end of the pitch. The Titans took many shots on goal but the Bulls' goalie skillfully defended most of them. Conor Lehan and Bobby McLoughlin did a great job moving the ball out of the Titans midfield and keeping it down in the Bulls' end of the field.

Towards the end of the first half, despite strong defensive work during the entire game by Jack Riceman and Brian Leggett, the Bulls were able to put a shot in the Titan goal. It would be their last goal of the day. John Schlichte had an otherwise flawless day tending the Titans' goal, making some excellent saves.

In the second half, the Titans kept the pressure on the Bulls' defense in what turned into a very physical game. Mark Luglio scored a goal on a breakaway sprint past the last Bulls defender. The Titans had numerous other shots on Oceanside's goal that either just missed their target or were stopped by the Bulls' keeper. After a tough defensive play by the Titans in which both players ended up on the ground, the Bulls were given a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick awarded by the referee. As the crowd grew quiet, keeper Joe Leighton steeled himself for the shot and saved the day for the Titans by blocking the ball. Not long after, the game ended and the Titans were celebrating their 2-1 victory over Oceanside.
