Girls U-10 Flash Tops Manhasset

Emily O'Neill looks upfield for a pass.
On Saturday, October 13, the Garden City Flash beat the Manhasset Blazers 6-0 at iPark. The Flash moved the ball well from the first kickoff and, this week, capitalized on their early opportunities. Kerry Defliese stepped up from central defense, intercepted a weak Manhasset clearance, and dribbled around several defenders before blasting a shot high past the keeper on the short side. Shortly thereafter, Manhasset was whistled for a hand ball several yards outside the area on the left side. Kerry measured the distance and calmly banged the ensuing free kick in off the near post. With the Flash up 2-0, Chloe Stapleford stepped into the spotlight. Released past the defense by a 25-yard pass up the left wing from Emily O'Neill, Chloe cut inside, sealed her defender and finished with a low shot at the near post that the goalie could not hold. Moments later, Chloe jumped on a short Manhasset goal kick, half-volleying the ball from outside the box into the top right hand corner to make the score 4-0 at the half.

The second half found the Flash working extensively on their passing game, consistently moving the ball around the back and up the flanks. The team's ball movement led directly to a fifth goal. Taking a back pass from the defense, second half keeper Kerry Defliese lofted a long ball to Michaela Bruno at midfield. Michaela turned and fed the ball wide to Julia McGuire on the left wing. Julia took a few dribbles before delivering the ball back inside to Michaela, who had continued her run down the left channel. Michaela received the ball neatly and chipped a long range effort over the keeper and just under the cross bar on the near side. As the half wore on, Nicole Leto controlled the ball well through the center of the field and combined effectively with Nicole Derby on the right wing. The scoring closed late in the half when Katie Muldoon took the ball in the center circle and pushed it out to Isabel Klatt on the left wing. Isabel took the ball down the wing and crossed back to Katie who tucked the ball past the keeper at the far post to seal the 6-0 win.

Grace Cameron cuts the ball back.
The Flash's defense remained solid throughout. Second half defenders Grace Cameron and Katherine Galzerano moved the ball well both from side to side and up the field. Other than staying alert for back passes, goalies Nicole Derby and Kerry Defliese were not busy at all.

The Flash enjoy the pregame atmosphere at iPark.
The Flash will look to extend their run of excellent play next Saturday against the Albertson Strykers at iPark. Go Flash!
