From The Mayor's Office
As many of you may have heard, the Village has designated AvalonBay Development Corp for continued negotiations regarding the possibility of preserving St. Paul's distinguished exterior by allowing residential rental apartments inside the 'main buildings.' (None of the playing fields would be given up by the Village.) We have NOT decided to enter into an actual development agreement yet; only to continue negotiations with AvalonBay. We still need to do some more negotiating with AvalonBay, and see whether a 'final' AvalonBay proposal can then generate support from the public and the Board of Trustees. I am optimistic that everyone who wants to 'save St. Paul's' will support our efforts to work with AvalonBay to produce the best possible final result, and solicit the maximum possible community input on that result, before a final decision is made by the Board of Trustees. SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT Special thanks is due to the Fire Department for their efforts in making Fire Prevention Day/Week the success that it was. Chief John Casey and our Fire Department do an outstanding job protecting our lives and homes. It was good to see such a huge turnout of residents for the programs that they planned throughout the week. SENIOR CITIZEN FLU IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, in cooperation with, the Nassau County Department of Health and the Nassau University Medical Center, will co-sponsor a free county-wide, flu immunization program for senior citizens. The immunization program for our area will be held at the Garden City Senior Recreation Center at 6 Golf Club Lane on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Residents 60 years of age or older, who are interested in receiving the vaccine should call the Garden City Recreation Department at 465-4075 to make an appointment beginning Monday, October 22. Residents should be prepared to indicate if they wish to receive just the flu immunization, or if they would like the additional protection of the pneumonia immunization which is also free. SHOP IN GARDEN CITY FIRST I know that I often mention "Shop Garden City" and there is no better time than now to mention it again. Residents in the Village of Garden City are very fortunate in having a vital business community comprised of merchants who are committed to serve us from their shops along Franklin Avenue, Seventh Street and New Hyde Park Road. I urge each of you to continue to patronize these local businesses during the holiday season and throughout the year. Our business community wants to know how they are doing, so take a minute the next time you are shopping and let them know what you think about the quality of their products and attention to customer service. QUALITY, SELECTION AND OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE SHOP GARDEN CITY FIRST! VILLAGE'S WEB SITE I encourage residents to periodically utilize the Village's website for information regarding the Village's operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. Also please be aware that I have a Village e-mail address and would be delighted to hear from Village residents about their concerns - it is as follows: MayorPBee@gardencityny.net BOARD MEETING The next regularly scheduled Village Board of Trustees meeting is on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. S.T.O.P.
