Reading is getting more popular every day and by that I mean the reading of books. The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead has had a Literary Series for its members for many years and so has the Garden City Branch of A.A.U.W. The Community church is also presenting a Book Reading series and so have several other groups. It's easy - a book is chosen and copies are reserved at the Garden City Library. You pick up a copy and have a good amount of time in which to read the book. Then the whole group meets to discuss all aspects of the book. All types of books are chosen and the readers are exposed to many new ideas and concepts. I am delighted to hear about this and so would Thomas Jefferson be. It was Jefferson who said: "I cannot live without Books".

The Long Island Panhellenic group met for lunch and a program at the Orchid Restaurant here in Town and among those enjoying the afternoon were: Adele Riley, Eleanor Singer, Marilyn LaPetrie, Betty Bangert, Sue Hall, Rosalie Kelly and Chris Marcin. Noel Burks was not able to attend due to having taken a spill on a cruise on the Queen Mary II. Now, If you have to fall that is a classic place to do it. Noel is home and doing well.

The Garden City Unit of Helen Heller Services For The Blind held their Fall Card Party at the Community Church and they had a full house. Among those playing were: Lillian Berryman, Gwen Duff, Gail Vitale, Gloria Tassone, Valerie Lemkul, and Kathleen Mullooly. Among those working were: Joy Losgar, Aurora Vinciguarra, Ann Senchyshyn, Elaine Kelly and Ann Wassmer and Dorothy Candiotti. A good time as had by all and all for a good cause.

Maureen and Duncan Fraser were back from a wonderful tour of Ireland where they saw many interesting sights, made new friends, and had wonderful weather. It's good to have them home again.

Happy Birthday wishes also go to Woodrow (Woody) Johnson who will turn 90 on the 22nd of October. A wonderful milestone and I hope he too has a great year ahead and many more to come.

All best wishes go to Pauline and Bob Rudkin, who celebrate their 56th Wedding Anniversary this month and also to Jackie and Bill Polon, who will mark their 12th on October 21st. Good health and much happiness and many more years to come.

Enjoying a wonderful concert by the Trio Selisti at Adelphi University recently were Marilyn Flynn, Joan Repetto, and Mary Polak along with a number of other residents of Garden City. The Performance was spectacular as always and they have another one to look forward to on October 30th.

Food prices always seem to go up every time you go to the store, but remember that the food that never goes up in price is food for thought! See you next week!
