The highly acclaimed graduating class of 1957 is returning in mass this weekend to celebrate its 50th Reunion. With 112 of its 238 graduates signed on to come back this reunion has the makings of being something special. The Class of 57 was an outstanding group academically, athletically and socially. The Class was the first to complete two full years at the "new" (current ) High School facility , first to start the tradition of a Graduation Breakfast at the then new Garden City Pool, and the last to lead a Victory Parade, as was custom , following football winning games The festivities this weekend include an "Early Bird" get together for diner at Walk Street on Thursday, Oct 18th. Bus Tours of the Village, led by Village Historian John Kordes, on both Friday and Saturday, a "get together" Friday evening at the Senior Mens' recreation center. From there it's onto the High School Library for a Class Meeting, and seminar where several classmates will describe their lives and careers....Principal, Dr Frank Banta will speak to the group and address any number of differences between the High School Today , and that of 1957. There will tours of the High School. The group will no doubt attend the Football Game against McArthur....to cheer on the Trojans and their outstanding coach Tom Flatley who happens to be a graduate of the Class of 1957. Saturday Night the "formal Banquet" will be at the Garden City Casino. With 160 scheduled to attend the party will be something special...the highlights will include a "return" of the class mascot (cigar store Indian) "Slokokim"....a series of skits and presentations from classmembers...the opening of the Time Capsule...and the revealing ( now that the Statute of Limitations has expired) of the classmates who decorated the Old Country Road Water Tower with "Class of 1957".....If anyone is still standing the class will wind up the weekend at brunch at Leo's Sunday morning.
