Firefighters Extricate Truck Driver

On Friday, October 5th, Garden City firefighters were alerted for a motor vehicle accident with a trapped truck driver at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Eleventh Street. Responding were units Engine 143, Heavy Rescue 146, Suburban 148, Chief 1400 and Chief 1401. Units arrived on scene and observed a box truck that was involved in a collision, trapping the driver. Firefighters utilized their vehicle extrication equipment to remove the door of the truck to access the driver. Under the direction of incident commander Chief John P. Casey and Assistant Chief James Meehan, firefighters were able to quickly stabilize the scene, the vehicles and rescue the trapped driver. The truck driver was treated and transported to the hospital by a Nassau County Police Ambulance.
