News From The Children's Room October 14 is the first Sunday the library will be reopened. Hours are 1PM - 5PM. Stop by and have a family day at the library! The library had the first special needs story time on Friday, October 5. The children were excited to attend and heard stories, saw a movie, and made a craft. Please contact the children's room for additional information if interested. Future dates are October 19, November 9, November 30, December 7 and December 14. Fall 2007 Special Programs for Children Ages 2 1/2 - 5 (No kindergarten) with an adult - starting with October 20 and a Halloween Painted Door Banner with the talented craftmaster, Joanne McGerty. Registration begins Saturday, October 13 at 9AM. Book club discussions began this week with Chapter Chat for the second graders! Schedule and book information is as follows: Chapter Chat - for children presently enrolled in the Second Grade. Each session is on a Wednesday and will start at 4:00 PM and last for 45 minutes. The first session was October 10 - "Grandma's Trick or Treat" by Emily Arnold McCully and the second is November 7 - "Amelia Bedelia 4 Mayor" by Peggy Parish. New Friends in a Book Club for children presently enrolled in Third Grade. Program is 45 minutes on Wednesdays at 5:00 PM. October 17 - "The Littles and the Great Halloween Scare" by John Peterson and November 28 - "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" by Barbara Robinson. Go Forth! Fourth Grade Book Club - For children presently enrolled in the Fourth Grade. Program is 45 minutes on Wednesdays at 5:00 - 5:45 PM. October 17 - The Spiderwick Chronicles, Book 1, "The Field Guide" by Tony DiTerlizzi. Perfect for those that liked Harry Potter! November 28 - "The Whipping Boy" an award-winning book by Sid Fleischman, The Page Turners - for children presently in the Fifth Grade. A 45-minute program on Mondays at 5:45 PM. October 22nd - "Tuck Everlasting" by Natalie Babbitt and November 26 - "Ken-suke's Kingdom" by Michael Morpurgo. Bring dinner and dessert and beverage will be served! Please check the library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
