Thunder 11 Maroon Tie Warriors 6-6

The autumn winds and fall foliage slowly creep in, and the Thunder 11 Maroon remain unbeaten. Unfortunately they had to settle for a tie, against the tough and resilient Warriors of Franklin Square.

Rath Park is no easy place for a visitor, but with the opening drive that led to the Thunders one and only score, you would think it was a home game. But it turned out the rest of the day was a back and forth, dog fight. Both defensive units made hard hits, and kept the offense to a minimum.

Jack Kennelly was asked what makes Rath Park such a great atmosphere for football, "green turf, the orange press box and the chimes of Mister Softee in the distance." Wow, that paints picture.

Tough defense was the story line of this day though, with big hits by Kyle Harder, Joe Leto and Kieran McGoldrick. Defensive linemen Conor Byrnes, Joe Criegton and Jack Anesner busted-up plays all afternoon.

On the offensive side of the ball, the running-back-by-committee experiment paid dividends, as the tough hitting made for multiple running backs to contribute. Brendan McLauglin continued to show some nifty footwork, making the Warrior defenders miss on several occasions. If not for a few well defended pass plays, the Thunder could have busted open the scoring. But it was not meant to be.

Coach Blair was asked how he feels the season has progressed so far, Coach replied, "I'm proud of these kids, we need to keep it going, it will be playoff time before you know it."

The next opponent is the always tough group from Hempstead. Kick-off is 12:30 Sunday in Hempstead. Hope to see everyone there.

Go Thunder!
