Thunder 10's Borges Come Up Short Against Mineola

The Thunder 10's vs. the Mineola Chiefs
It was a beautiful fall afternoon at Hampton Stadium in Mineola and both the GC Thunder and the Mineola Chiefs were ready for a tough game. Unfortunately, Mineola jumped out to a 12 - 0 lead after a Thunder punt and turnover midway through the second quarter. Finally the Thunder offense put together a very good offensive drive to make the score 12 - 7 at halftime. That great drive to use most of the time in the 2nd quarter was made possible by our big boys up front leading the way (Liam Byrnes, Thomas Wright, Quinn McDonagh, Jack Tobin, Brian Goulard, Matthew Esposito, Chris Mosciatello, Daniel Krumm, Ryan McCartney, Justin Samardich, and Brian Colamussi). Our boys were very excited at half time and were really looking forward to starting the second half to continue our momentum. We received the 2nd half kickoff and drove down the field to score on a very good run by James Sullivan which gave us the lead 13 - 12. Both teams pushed the ball back and forth without much progress until Mineola took the lead 18 - 13 midway through the 4th quarter. Mineola was again driving towards the end zone which would have really put the game out of reach when our defense made 2 tough tackles at the 1 yard line before forcing a fumble which we recovered with about 2 minutes left in the game. Our defense was led by Jack Concannon, Mike Crapotta, Timmy Collins, Ben Walsh, Kevin Sprotte, Brian Colamussi, Colin Castro, Patrick Slovensky, Chris Repetti, Lucas D'Aversa, Brian Goulard, Thomas Wright, James Sullivan, Matt Borges and Luke Armstrong. Our boys came out firing after our last timeout and moved the ball to about the 40 yard line before a great interception by a Mineola player ended the game. The coaching staff could not have been any prouder of how our boys fought back from a 12 - 0 deficit to take the lead and then to watch our boys again never quit and move the ball very well with only 2 minutes on the clock to only come up a little short. Our boys are next faced with the biggest challenge of the year facing the number one 10 year old team in the NCYFL, the Massapequa Mustangs. We are going to practice very hard this week and give the Mustangs all they can handle. We are playing at Burns Park in Massapequa Sunday October 7, 2007 at 12:30 PM and would love as many supporters that can make it! Go Thunder!!!!!!
