On Thursday, September 20, Nancy Kalafus, Garden City High School Director of Physical Education, accepted the 2006-2007 School of Distinction Award from the NYS Public High School Athletic Council. To receive the award, all members of all varsity teams must maintain an academic average of at least 90%. At Garden City, as many as 600 players on 31 teams had to achieve this goal to qualify the school for the award. It is the third time that the High School has received the honor, which was created in 2002. This year's Homecoming game, Garden City vs. Mepham, is scheduled for Saturday, September 29, at 2 p.m., preceded by a parade at 12:30 p.m.
