H.O.P.E.ful Teens Clean Beach
By Caitlin Crowley

Club president M.C. Alvey does her part for the Earth.
On September 15, 11 members of H.O.P.E. got hands on, protecting the environment at the beach. These teenagers, as part of Garden City High Schools environmental club, got down and dirty picking up garbage among the rocks by Point Lookout and down along the shores of Malibu. The students, accompanied by club advisor, Mr. Robert Wiedenhoft, quickly filled numerous garbage bags with styrofoam cups, old fish nets and everything in between.

Such garbage clean-ups are just one example of the charitable project accomplished by this hardworking club. H.O.P.E. works to raise money for such causes as purchasing pieces of land and is currently working to see to it that the school and village make strides toward "going green" and becoming environmentally friendly. This organization is living proof that saving our planet is becoming more possible each day, one school at a time, one student at a time, one piece of litter at a time.

The group poses before getting to work.
