Congratulations and a sincere word of thanks are due to the Chamber's Festival Committee and Garden City High School for the extraordinary effort that they expanded to make last Satur-day's annual Festival and Street Fair the success that it was. The magnificent weather made it even more festive. FIRE PREVENTION WEEK The annual observance of Fire Prevention Week in Garden City will be October 7 through October 13, 2007. All residents and friends are invited to attend the Annual Inspection and Open House on Sunday, October 14th at 12:00 p.m. The program will be conducted at Fire Headquarters and in the employee parking field, located on the west side of Village Hall on Stewart Avenue. Your Fire Department does an outstanding job to protect our lives and homes. Please stop by to show your support for them. I'm sure that your entire family will enjoy the program. VILLAGE OFFICES CLOSED - COLUMBUS DAY Village offices will be closed on Monday, October 8, 2007 in observance of Columbus Day and will reopen on Tuesday, October 9th. For your convenience, correspondence for the Village may be placed in the "Letter" drop slot at the front door. SANITATION COLLECTION There will be normal garbage and recycling pickup on Monday, October 8, 2007. Residences west of Rockaway Avenue will have their garbage collected on Monday and Thursday and those east of Rockaway will be collected on Tuesday and Friday. Rubbish will be collected on Wednesday. OUTDOOR DINING: A BIG HIT It is wonderful to see so many Garden City residents as well as visitors to our Village enjoying alfresco dining on New Hyde Park Road, Franklin Avenue and Seventh Street. This year there are over twenty-five businesses which have permits. There is no doubt that alfresco dining is an overwhelming success. I encourage residents to come early and combine shopping with dining outside at their favorite place. The outdoor dining will continue through the month of November. VILLAGE'S WEB SITE I encourage residents to periodically utilize the Village's website for information regarding the Village's operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest.
