An Evening With A Touch of Jazz

The Cathedral of the Incarnation's Journey to Adulthood (J2A) and Rite 13 (confirmation class) Youth Group is sponsoring an evening filled with the sights and sounds of New Orleans on Saturday, November 3rd. The Undercroft of the Cathedral will be decorated New Orleans' style and a touch of jazz music along with some good food and some themed raffle baskets will set the tone for the announcement of the group's upcoming mission trip. The J2A/Rite13 members will be traveling to Mission on the Bay, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi during the Spring Break of 2008. They will be aiding the victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Mississippi Gulf Coast where there are still needs that have not been met.

In preparation for the Rite of Confirmation, the reaffirmation of their Baptismal vows and the discernment of their role in the church, this group of young people has been exploring all aspects of their life with particular attention to their relationships with family and friends. They have also been discerning what their responsibilities are to society and to the environment. And most importantly, they have been discerning the significance God plays in their lives. As part of this faith journey, these young people are going on this Mission Trip in February 2008. The need in the Mississippi Gulf Coast continues to be great since there are many people who are still affected one way or another by the destruction and devastation left by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This Mission Trip without a doubt will be a life changing and life giving experience for both the youth of the Cathedral and our neighbors who live along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. There are several ways you can support these young people: Purchase a ticket for the evening and join in the fun; purchase raffle tickets to be able to win a prize; make a donation of cash or beverages or prizes for the raffles.

You do not need to be a member of the Cathedral of the Incarnation to attend this event or support these young people in their endeavor to help others less fortunate. Please contact Deacon Connie Lorenz, Director of Christian Formation, at the Cathedral Office at 516-741-7915 for more information or to offer your support.
