Thunder 10's Borges Beat Rival Franklin Square

"Thunder celebrate victory as time expires!"
It was a rainy windy day in mid September as the Thunder prepared for the game against rival Franklin Square. The Thunder won the coin toss and chose to defer the decision until the second half which meant we would be kicking off and sending our very capable defense on the field to set the tone for the game. Franklin Square was determined to confuse our defense with multiple offensive sets but after giving up two first downs the Thunder Defense would stop Franklin Square on an attempted 4th down conversion. Our defense was led by Jack Concannon, Mike Crapotta, Timmy Collins, Ben Walsh, Kevin Sprotte, Brian Colamussi, Colin Castro, Chris Repetti, Lucas D'Aversa, Brian Goulard, Thomas Wright, James Sullivan, Matt Borges and Luke Armstrong. The offense really could not get anything going in the first half despite the fact that we tried some very complex pass plays but the boys were working very hard. The score at halftime was 0 - 0 and during our halftime break, the boys were prepared to go out and take control in the second half because of all the conditioning work they do every week. The Thunder was set to receive to start the second half. Franklin Square kicked the ball to James Sullivan who dropped the ball for a moment and then picked it up to run 65 yards up the sideline for a touchdown to put the Thunder ahead 6 - 0. Now it was up to our more then capable defense to hold Franklin Square from scoring and we would win the game. The third quarter went back and forth without much movement and no additional scores so we start the 4th quarter with a 6 - 0 lead. We started the fourth quarter with our offense putting together a great drive eating up almost 8 minutes and driving it inside the Franklin Square 10 yard line before we were stopped on a 4th down. That drive was made possible by our big boys up front leading the way (Quinn McDonagh, Jack Tobin, Brian Goulard, Matthew Esposito, Chris Mosciatello, Daniel Krumm, Ryan McCartney, Justin Samardich, and Brian Colamussi). This was the first game that our backfield really started to click; Matt Borges was handling the play calling and handing the ball to James Sullivan, Thomas Wright and Liam Byrnes. Franklin Square had one last chance with the ball but as usual, our defense came up big with an interception (James Sullivan) which allowed our offense to knee the ball twice and the game was ours!!!! Congratulations to all the boys who work so hard every week, we have two wins in a row and we need to keep that momentum going. We now have to prepare the boys for our big rival from Mineola who beat us 12 - 0 last year. We will be playing the Mineola Chiefs on Sunday September 30 at Hampton Stadium in Mineola at 12:30.
