GCHS Students Make Miracles

Miracle Club members celebrate their success.
More than 125 Garden City High School students, siblings and alumni were reunited on Saturday, June 2nd to participate in the 7th annual Miracle Miles Walk-a-thon. The event, which was organized by club members, is held annually to honor Garden City's Miracle Foundation Founder, Michael J. Tenaglia. The students raised over $20,000 by soliciting sponsorships from generous area residents and high school faculty.

"The walk-a-thon is the largest and most profitable charitable event at the high school," said Miracle Club Co-president, Katie DiBona. "Even today's hot and humid conditions couldn't deter us." DiBona noted that this year's revenue will be donated to The Miracle Foundation in support of "Back in the Game", an integrated strength and fitness program, which enables former and current pediatric cancer patients to regain their physical abilities lost due to the effects of chemotherapy.

High school Key Club members were also on hand to support the worthy cause. Their barbeque was a welcome treat for students who, only minutes earlier, had completed the SAT and SAT II examinations. "Our students have a strong commitment to helping those in need," said P.D. Rivadue, the Key Club Faculty Adviser. "Their infectious energy has made a difference."
