Thunder 11's Maroon Win Bragging Rights 14-0

This past Friday night two of the Thunder 11 year old teams squared off under the lights at the GC Pool for 2007 bragging rights. But in fact even though the Maroon team prevailed, it was a night of quality football and good sportsmanship all around. About half way through the contest the rains came, but that didn't spoil the fun had by the teams and their fans.

Special teams and defensive line Coach Ireland was overheard exclaiming, "I got eleven guys ready to go every down, eleven guys ready to bust it. That's a team."

The Maroon success started up front on the offensive line. Linemen Legget, Schillinger, Nardone, C. Byrnes, Moran, Aneser, Kennelly, McGoldrick, and Keating busted open holes all night. Once again keeping the running backs fresh throughout the game was key in sustaining long, time consuming drives. Backs Kieren Byrnes and Anthony Preziosi provided the points, making it 14-0 by the third quarter.

With its second straight shut out, the defense stubbornly prevented quick and talented Thunder White quarterback Jack Tighe from getting into the end zone. Even though this was a heated contest, both sides displayed good sportsmanship, and played the game the way it should be played; tough but clean.

Defensive stalwart Kyle Harder noted the great atmosphere," Friday night football, playing against my buddies from school, and unlimited pizza. Livin' the dream, man. Livin' the dream."

Well said young man. Keep up the good work. This week Maroon plays the Mariners from Long Beach, which should be a good test of how far this team has come.

Saturday 11:30 at Stewart School- be there.

Go Thunder!
