Thunder 10's Borges Get First Win

It was a beautiful late summer day at the Uniondale High School football field with both the Uniondale Knights and Garden City Thunder looking for their first win of the young season. It did not exactly start the way the Thunder wanted with Uniondale scoring first on a long run but the Thunder stopped the extra point leaving the score 6 - 0 Uniondale.

It was at that point that our yet to score offense would awaken, after a long drive using the legs of Matt Borges and James Sullivan, Thomas Wright would run a beautiful reverse for the touchdown with James Sullivan converting on the extra point run making the score 7 - 6 Thunder. This drive was made possible by the blocking of our big boys up front and our fullback (Quinn McDonagh, Jack Tobin, Brian Goulard, Matthew Esposito, Chris Mosciatello, Daniel Krumm, Ryan McCartney, Patrick Slovensky, Justin Samardich, and Liam Byrnes). After our defense gave up that first quick touchdown, they shut the Uniondale offense down for the balance of the game bending a little but never breaking. The defense was led Jack Concannon, Mike Crapotta, Timmy Collins, Ben Walsh, Kevin Sprotte, Brian Colamussi, Colin Castro, Chris Repetti, Lucas D'Aversa and Luke Armstrong. The Thunder came out after halftime knowing we were going to receive the kickoff and very determined to score. After an 85 yard touchdown run by James Sullivan was called back, we ran a beautiful double pass. Matt Borges threw a laterell Thomas Wright who threw a deep pass to James Sullivan who ran 40 yards for the touchdown that sealed the game. That made the score 14 - 6 Garden City which also turned out to be the final score. Thanks to all the boys for their amazing effort in this win and parents for all their support from the stands. Please come out and cheer on your Thunder next Sunday when we play Franklin Square September 23 at 1 PM at the Stewart Field.

GO THUNDER!!!!!!!
