GC Shock Continues To Rock

Peppard Shoots and Scores
Coach Bill Metzlers U- 10 live wires followed their Silver Medal Covanta Tournament debut with a 2-1 win over East Meadow on opening day of the regular season. Once again, each and every team member contributed to the solid team effort which ended in their victory. Ironically, the Shock edged their opponents by a single goal in a 1-0 win just two weeks before at Covanta.

Although the final score was quite close, the Shock clearly dominated for the majority of the game. The dynamic duo of Jenna Cammarata and Tianna Biscone were held scoreless after hitting every post and crossbar on the East Meadow net several times over. Kerri Metzler and Jane Stone also had several "just wide" shots that looked destined to score as did Brook McDaid, Julia Forbes and an ever tenacious Emma Costello. The East Meadow net keeper was also on fire which closed the gap and stopped the game from becoming a blowout.

Equally effective between the pipes were Julianna Kubler in the first half and Kerri Metzler in the second half. Without these two talented net keepers, it could have been a very different outcome. They too are quite a combo!

No-nonsense Olivia DeCurtis and a scrappier-than-ever Jane Stone along with an ever-consistent Caroline Peppard bolstered the defensive efforts. Hats off to Coach Metzler for mixing thing up as he does because it was Peppard that scored not just one but both of the Shock's goals in separate brilliant attacks.

It was another beautiful performance by a spirited squad that shows a tremendous amount of promise for an outstanding season. There is certainly no "I" in team and these girls continue to demonstrate that it is spelled "T-E-A-M" with some incredible talent and enthusiasm and under the guidance of a superior trio of coaches.

Last Saturday, they improved their record to 2-0 with a convincing win over a tough Levittown squad. Once again, an incredible team effort let to a shutout for the undefeated Shock in their second game. Olivia DeCurtis and Kerri Metzler were flawless as net keepers with Metzler stopping not one but two penalty shots. Emma Costello and Julia Forbes each added another notch to their respective scoring gun belts and Jenna Cammarata had some impressive shots on goal. Go Shock!
