Buckley Appoints Upper School Head
This appointment was made at the conclusion of an extensive nationwide search. All who met Ms. Wong at Buckley were truly impressed with her profound understanding of current middle school curriculum, her enthusiasm and passion for middle school students, and her overall positive and forward-thinking outlook on education. In her Philosophy of Education, she states: "It is my goal to enhance student learning as a transformative experience. I want my students to feel personally challenged, encouraging them to confront existing boundaries by teaching them to make the familiar strange and to question how they have come to know what they believe to be true about their world." Ms. Wong graduated from Meriden School, a K-12 independent school for girls in New South Wales, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Macquarie University, Sydney, with a major in American and European history and a minor in economics and business law. Ms. Wong is also the recipient of a Diploma of Education from Macquarie, with a major in educational philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy. Before coming to Buckley, Ms. Wong was Director of Middle School Studies and Chair of History at School of the Holy Child, a NYSAIS independent school in Rye, New York. Most significant in her legacy there are the integration of technology, the use of thematic teach-ing, and the emphasis on differentiated instruction into all curriculum areas. Prior to joining the faculty of School of the Holy Child in 2003, Ms. Wong was Dean of Students and taught history at the Illawarra Grammar School, in Wollongong, Australia. She started her teaching career at Marian College in Goulburn, Australia. "I know you will all join me in welcoming this outstanding educator to the Buckley community," said Headmaster Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel to faculty and parents. Ms. Wong, who has moved from Greenwich, Connecticut with her husband Carlton and daughter Alisha, will be teaching the fifth grade study skills course in order to get to know the newest members of her division as rapidly as possible. "It's great to see teachers at Buckley embrace the newest technology in their classrooms," Ms. Wong said. "The SMART boards (interactive white boards) will broaden and extend our students' 21st century skills. I simply love being at Buckley. It's a wonderful mix of a tradition-rich culture and cutting edge teaching and learning."
