Letters To The Editor

Email: editor@ gcnews.com 14 Long Years

To the Editor,

Three proposed plans for the future of the Saint Paul's School building will soon be available for the public to review by the mid to end of October. This news was announced at the Trustees meeting last Thursday, September 13th. I should be happy, but in fact it is sad because it has taken 14 long years just to get to this point!! A year ago, a formal Request for Proposals announcement was sent out for development ideas and now the three "best-use" plans, which have been culled down by a Trustee-led sub-committee and Karen Backus Associates, are in the hands of the Trustees and ready for further steps towards decision making.

Certainly, decision making is what we urgently need! It is important for The Board to move the decision making process along expeditiously so that a plan is selected soon and work on the building can begin. It is also important to move the process along so that key State Legislative procedures relating to Saint Paul's parkland alienation can begin to be addressed this spring. It is my hope that a decision can be made this fall. We have waited long enough for action. It is time for decision making, that's why we have elected Trustees. After-all, this is the second time, over the past 14 years that RFP's have been requested, reviewed and selected. All of the past delays and poor decision making are becoming rather embarrassing, reflecting poorly on our community and its' leadership. It appears we are a community without vision. I urge residents to stay focused on this issue, once again, as it is approaching a critical juncture. Attend upcoming Trustees meetings and let your opinions on the plans be heard. I know that I will be supporting the proposal submitted by the Committee to Save Saint Paul's. This plan has been presented to the public several times and has gained a tremendous amount of support from residents already. It is a plan with a sound vision and is fiscally responsible.

Thanks To Supporters

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team, Aunts, Grandmother, teachers, friends and neighbors, for their involvement in the "Race for the Cure"(Sept 9) Together we raised $4400.00 and we had 50 members on our team.

Breast cancer is personal to us because it is personal to the people we love - our families, our friends and neighbors. These people have shown me the meaning of courage. The day was inspirational.

Let all of us think "Pink" throughout the year. Oct is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month". Education and prevention are important. Everyone should do self breast exams and have a mammogram.

Thank You,

Patricia McCormick(Team Captain)
