Former Resident's Film Wins Prize At Film Festival

Former Garden City resident, Jared Goldman, son of Myra & Jim Rosenthal, has receieved the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for the documentary, "Manda Bala".

Translated, Manda Bala means 'Send the Bullet'. The documentary, produced by Mr. Goldman, exposes the 'industry' of crime, corruption, and kidnapping that currently takes place in Sao Paulo, Brasil. It features a stylish score while showing interviews with kidnappers, kidnap victims, and the people who profit off of them.

The Village Voice called the film, "Stunning", Variety said "loads of dark humor and cinematic flair', The NY Post called it "Harrowing", and Time Out NY gave it five stars.

The film will be shown at The Roslyn Movie Theater beginning on September 7, 2007.

On October 4th, Mada Bala will be screening at The Huntington Cinema. At this screening, there will be a Question and Answer session afterwards with the filmmakers.
