Women's Wellness Tour

Ladies - before you can take care of others, you need to take care of yourself. As part of its ongoing commitment to educate women about the importance of early detection and the prevention of various women's health concerns, Winthrop-University Hospital has partnered with the "GE Women's Health and Wellness Tour" sponsored by iVillage Total Health to provide free medical screenings and educational information to Long Island women. The unique, interactive event will be held in GE's state-of-the-art 53-foot Health Vehicle that will be located in the parking lot behind 1300 Franklin Avenue, Garden City, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, on Saturday, October 6, 2007.

"Winthrop is excited to be the first hospital on Long Island to introduce this exciting, innovative learning tool," said Deborah Johnson-Schiff, Senior Vice President of Administration at Winthrop. "The event will focus on the unique health needs of women in life stages ranging from the childbearing years through menopause."

The GE mobile tour educates women by providing a custom-designed semi-trailer for health screenings and displays of the latest clinical technologies, such as digital mammography and a 4-D laptop-size ultrasound unit. The goals of the tour are to build awareness about the importance of women focusing on their own health needs and to inspire them to be proactive about their healthcare.

GE's Health Vehicle features breast, bone and heart health suites with the latest GE technologies. Winthrop's clinicians will be available to provide free medical screenings, educational information and interactive demonstrations and discussions with participants. The suites include a Women's Healthcare Education Station; iVillage Internet Kiosk;

DINAMAP blood pressure measurement systems to screen women and educate them about cardiovascular disease; GE Lunar Achilles systems to test bone mineral density from the ankle; and an interactive breast self-exam model display and digital mammography educational workstation to educate about the importance of early detection in battling breast cancer. A special "GE Imagination at Work Suite" for moms-to-be and Uterine Fibroid information station are also included.

"Access to the latest and most advanced diagnostic technology can make all the difference in terms of early detection, more accurate diagnosis and the right treatment plans for many diseases and conditions," said Joe Hagan, president and CEO of GE Healthcare. "The 'GE Women's Health and Wellness Tour' provides us with a unique opportunity to give something back and really engage women in important and informative discussions that can positively impact their health today and in the future."
