Thunder Maroon 11's Heat Up In Opener

Felt like a beach day this past Sunday, but the Thunder Maroon 11's played the game in midseason form. The 30-0 victory over Bellmore was a team effort in every sense of the word.

With a mixture of familiar and new faces filling the stat sheet, the season premiere featured solid football throughout. By utilizing a running-back-by-committee approach, the team amassed three running touchdowns and one passing touchdown. Including a seventy yard QB sneak by number eighty six Mike Holland.

When asked what the team's psyche was coming into the game, emotional leader Joe Crieghton put it best, "It's back to school; it's back to business, baby. We were ready to play today."

Offensive linemen Kieran McGoldrick, Thomas Leggett and JP Moran opened up massive holes for the backs. New player Dale Stasco played a great opener, contributing big plays for the offense. Dale went three for three on kicking extra points, that might be a record.

On defensive, the Byrnes Brothers had hard hits that could be heard from the parking lot. D-Linemen Jack Kennelly, Cullen Minion and Anthony Preziosi kept the Bellmore Braves from getting inside the Thunder's thirty yard line.

Strength and Conditioning Coach Jim Moran summed up the victory this way, "I'll be honest. I ran the kids hard this summer. The way they played today, makes all the pain and suffering worth it."

That's the kind of emotion this team thrives on. No matter how the rest of this season progresses, one thing is for sure - these kids plays with fire, passion and pride. Can we really ask for more?

Next game is Friday night under the lights, against their fellow Garden City brethren. Lets hope for more fun, and exciting play from both squads.

Go Thunder!!
