Titans Win In Jericho

Conor Lehan sets up pass to Mark Luglio
Last weekend the GC Titans U10 boys soccer team played the Jericho Chargers. This was the team's first official league game of the season. After working hard over the summer and getting the kinks out at the Covanta tournament the previous weekend, the boys came to Jericho ready to play.

The Titans scored early in the first half, with a solid shot from Michael Franco that got past the Chargers' goalie. Mark Luglio and Conor Lehan were also very effective on offense, keeping the pressure on the Chargers' defensive players. Joe Leighton was the Titan's keeper in the first half, helped out by a tough Titans defense that was led by Jack Riceman, Brian Leggett, and Owen Prendergast. Towards the end of the half, the Chargers came back with two quick goals to end the half with a 2-1 lead.

After the Titans regrouped, they rose to the challenge with another two goals by Michael Franco. Jack Roscoe scored the team's fourth goal with 5 minutes left to play, aided by a nice assist from Michael Franco. Conor Lehan and Bobby McLoughlin kept the pressure on the Chargers' defense, while John Schlichte helped the Titans with some excellent goaltending. When it was over, the Titans had emerged with a 4-2 victory, starting out the season on a successful note and laying the ground-work for a good season ahead.
