Last week the Garden City Casino Blue Team, captained by Phil Green, became this year's champions of the Long Island Interclub Senior League (60 & over) Men's Doubles Tournament by defeating Cherry Valley Country Club in a hard fought contest on the red clay courts at Cherry Valley. The Championship Blue Team fielded Tom Adams and Phil Volz on court one; John Daley and Bob Seaman on court two; Ray McRory and Paul Cuneo on court three; Drew Hult and Phil Green on court four. Bill Lockwood and Ben Semmes did not play. The success of the Blue Team this season came despite the loss of four key players to injuries: Bob Chlupsa, Ray Feeney, Jim King and Larry Murphy.
Cherry Valley had four strong teams consisting of Woody Horn and Jim Healy on court one; Marty Dehler & Steve Geisler on court; two; Roger Tighe and Bob Caliari on court three; Dick Benach and Hans Schict on court four. The Dehler/Geisler team dropped out due to injury.
The Interclub Senior League is made up of seven tennis clubs in Nassau County including Garden City Casino - Blue & Gold, Cherry Valley Country Club, Shelter Rock Country Club I & II, Hamlet Tennis Club, Great Neck Park Tennis I & II, Lawrence Country Club, Sea Glen Tennis Club, Douglaston Tennis Club and North Shore Towers Tennis.

With several members over 60 the Garden City Casino actually fielded two teams the Blue and the Gold captained by Jim Kwee, which lost to Cherry Valley in the semi-finals. The Gold team includes Tony Giangrasso, Bill Mecca, Charlie Menges, Ken Bolte, Bob Tully, Jerry McCormack, Larry Riccio, Don Noda, Bert Allen, Rich Prime, Al Petraglia, John Kelsh and Bob Hegeman, Lou Pellicano, Lou Fasano and John Carter.
